Hello crafty friends! Today, we're diving into a delightful crochet project that combines warmth with a touch of whimsy: a crochet hat adorned with sew-thru button embellishments. This project is perfect for crocheters looking to add a unique flair to their winter wardrobe or create a thoughtful handmade gift. So, grab your hooks and buttons, and let's get started!
What You'll Need:
- Dress It Up sew-thru buttons (any style)
Making The Hat - Crochet:
- Tie a slip knot and insert your hook, create chains until the length of yarn fits the circumference of your head. This can be anywhere from 45-55 stitches depending on the size of your head. Once it is the desired size, slip stitch to the very first stitch in the chain, you should have a circle that fits your head, but isn't too snug.
- After you slip stitch, chain 1 and half-double crochet into each stitch in the chain, once you reach the end, slip stitch into that first stitch and repeat that row for 25-30 rows or until it's the desired length.
- Once you've reached the end, chain one and pull the yarn through to tie it off. Leave a long tail on the yarn to tie up the end up one end of the tube.
- Use an embroidery needle or yarn needle and thread that onto the end of the yarn; stitch through both layers of the tube along one side and fasten off the end. Turn your hat inside out.
Adding Embellishments:
- This is the easy part! Take a regular sewing needle and thread, knot the end; push through the inside of the hat to hide the knot. Thread through the back of the button, go over the top and through the adjacent button hole. Repeat a couple passes of this for strength. Tie off on the inside of the hat as well, I like to do a French knot to secure it.
